KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 (Bernama) — Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah regards his appointment as Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the second term as a historical event that may not happen again in the country.
The King was touched, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in an interview on SINARfm “Sinar Pagi” programme today.
He said the feeling was conveyed to him several times by Tuanku Abdul Halim during his audience with the new Agong before the Wednesday cabinet meeting after the installation ceremony.
“The King said that he served as Agong for the first time with Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, and now, for the second term, with his son.
“The King said this will not happen again,” said Najib when interviewed by deejay Khairil Rashid, Salih Yaccob and Raja Azura here.
Najib said Tuanku Abdul Halim also showed him a black and white photograph of Tun Abdul Razak having an audience with him (Tuanku Abdul Halim) when he was the Agong for the first term, before giving him the picture as a gift when he was granted an audience with the 14th Agong for the second time.
“I am overwhelmed with the gift from Tuanku,” he added.
Najib said Tuanku Abdul Halim also wanted a picture of him with a pose similar to that found on the picture which was given to him as a gift.
Najib said his father became prime minister in 1970 when he (Najib) was 17 years old.
