HULU TERENGGANU, April 25 (Bernama) — The people of Terengganu, especially those in the districts to be visited by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, are excitedly waiting for this visit by the country’s number one leader.

The prime minister will make a one-day visit to Terengganu through the “Program Turun Padang Bersama Rakyat” (‘Going Down to the Field with the People’ programme) on April 30.

The places to be visited by Najib include the Batu Enam Market, Kampung Pengkalan Arang, Pulau Duyong in Kuala Terengganu, and Kampung Bahagia in Manir.

For traders at the Pasar Batu Enam, this will be the second visit by a prime minister as Najib’s father, the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein who was Malaysia’s second prime minister, had visited the place in 1966.

Yahya Tahir, 64, a “keropok” (fish cracker) wholesaler at the market, was among the crowd who had welcomed Tun Abdul Razak during his visit there.

“This time we will be becoming his son. This is special as the son is also prime minister. We hope there’ll be a special announcement for us here,” he said.

Yahya hopes Najib’s visit will bring more development to the area, which is located about 10 kilometres from Kuala Terengganu’s city centre.

Kuih seller Zah Awang, 56, said she was eager to see the prime minister at close range.

Besides touring the market, the prime minister will also visit the homes of a number of residents in Kampung Pengkalan Arang and the Bukit Tunggal market site before attending a traditional people’s feast in Kampung Pulau Bahagia.

Najib is also scheduled to launch a people’s apartment in Pulau Duyung and then meet his online friends at a gathering in the evening.

He will later meet local community leaders including from Barisan Nasional component parties at a function to be held at Dataran Shahbandar, Kuala Terengganu. It is expected to be attended by about 20,000 people.

Najib’s “turun padang” programme in Terengganu is the third after Johor and Sarawak.

The prime minister will be accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor on his visit to Terengganu where she will also attend a Girld Guides event in Kampung Seberang Pintasan, Dungun.
