KUALA SELANGOR, April 16 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Selangor is on the verge of returning to the Barisan Nasional’s (BN) fold.
The signal from the people, including the Indian community, is clear and in favour of the BN, he said at a gathering attended by 13,000 people from four parliamentary constituencies — Selayang, Kuala Selangor, Tanjung Karang and Kapar — at Ladang Tennamaram, Bestari Jaya, near here.
Najib acknowledged the presence of a large number of people wearing the 1Malaysia shirt bearing his photograph.
“I hope that this is a reflection of the growing support or votes for the BN,” he said.
The prime minister said that the BN had demonstrated that it cared for the people, including the Indian community.
This is reflected in the provision of 1,000 additional places for Indian students to enrol in matriculation course, from over 1,500 previously, he added.
Indian traders had also been given loans through Tekun and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, he said.
“We deliver what the BN has promised; there are also additional allocations for Tamil schools,” he added, calling for “nambikei”, or trust in Tamil, between the Indian community and the government.
Earlier, Najib declared open the Sime Darby Plantation Sdn Bhd’s housing and management complex for the Tennamaram plantation not far from the gathering’s venue.
