Search and Rescue Operations in Nepal – Update

By Friday May 1st, 2015 No Comments

I have just received the latest report on the Search and Rescue Operations in Nepal from the National Security Council.

The members of our Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) are involved in a joint operation with Singapore’s Civil Defence Force and Thailand’s search and rescue team in Lalitpur, Kathmandu. The team has managed to recover the first body which was trapped in a three story building with a weak foundation currently. The high-risk search and rescue operation is still ongoing there.

The Malaysian medical team of volunteers in Nepal have also been working round the clock to treat the victims of the devastating earthquake. I understand that the medical supplies brought from Kuala Lumpur are depleting rapidly and I would like to give my assurance that the Malaysian Government will send additional medicine and medical supplies as soon as possible to Nepal.

Your effort and contributions in Nepal are highly regarded and respectable. We look forward to your safe return to Kuala Lumpur when the operations are over.
