KUANTAN: Unity among the races must be further strengthened to enable the country to enjoy continuous peace and harmony, Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah said.
He said national integration and unity was the only way the country could mo-ve forward to face global challenges.
“I hope mutual respect for one another will be instilled and preserved in the state at all times.
“In this regard, I hope the aspirations of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to achieve his 1Malaysia concept will be realised,” he said in his speech when opening the 12th state assembly sitting here yesterday.
Sultan Ahmad Shah said that without an effective public delivery system, the Government’s strategies and development programmes would not be accomplished.
He urged civil servants to be committed to their work and serve with sincerity.
“I also hope assemblymen will carry out their work diligently to address problems in their respective constituencies.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Najib as the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia,” he said, adding that Najib has the abilities of a good leader to weather the present political crisis and effects of the global economic downturn.
On economic growth, Sultan Ahmad Shah said Pahang was expected to record a decline of between 1% and 2% last year from 5.3% in 2007.
He expressed his gratitude to the Government for approving RM256.3mil to finance 1,270 projects under the first stimulus package and another RM808.4mil to carry out 119 projects under the second package.
