KOTA BAHARU, July 2 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today promised the people of Kelantan a quality housing programme on a huge scale if Barisan Nasional wins the state in the next general election.
The Prime Minister said the BN government had the means to carry out such a programme for the wellbeing of the people of Kelantan.
He said he could see for himself that housing was a primary concern in Kelantan with the number of houses in poor condition.
“On Monday, I will launch a quality housing programme in Putrajaya. If it can be done in Putrajaya, what more in Kelantan,” Najib said to about 10,000 Kota Baharu residents at a 1Malaysia feast for people at Wisma Persekutuan here.
Also present were Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen and Deputy Finance Minister Senator Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin.
Najib said that he felt it his responsibility to advance the people of Kelantan and would keep his promise if BN were to capture the state.
He said the sincerity of the BN government in wanting to develop Kelantan could be seen from the RM6 billion allocated to the state under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, and the RM2.5 billion set aside thus far under the 10th Malaysia Plan.
Najib believed that the large number of people who had turned out to meet him in Kelantan — over 20,000 in Pasir Puteh, 15,000 in Machang, and 10,000 in Kota Baharu — indicated that the “wind of change” was blowing through the state.
