Prime Minister Arrives In Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept 12 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived at the Brunei International Airport Monday to attend the 15th Annual Consultation with the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

The Prime Minister arrived at the airport at 3.30pm and was greeted by a prince of the Sultan of Brunei, Pengiran Muda Abd Azim. Also present at the airport were Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar and the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir.

The first programme in the Prime Minister’s itinerary was to attend an Aidilfitri Gathering with Malaysian nationals at the Empire Hotel & Country Club, here.

Najib later proceeded to Istana Nurul Iman to attend the 15th Annual Consultation with the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, where both leaders were expected to discuss various regional and global issues.

The two leaders would also witness the signing of the agreement between Malaysia and Brunei on the project to construct the Sungai Pandaruan Bridge which would link Limbang in Sarawak and Temburong in Brunei.

They will also witness the signing of three memorandums of understanding, the first two will be on economic and investment cooperation between Brunei and Sarawak, and between Brunei and Sabah, while the third will be on cooperation between Petronas and PetroleumBRUNEI.

The Prime Minister and his delegation will later attend a banquet hosted by the Sultan of Brunei.

The annual consultations are convened alternately between the two countries. Malaysia hosted the 14th Annual Consultation in Putrajaya on Sept 21 last year.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to Malaysia tomorrow.
