The Deputy Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak will not be visiting the United States of America for the working visit earlier scheduled from Sptember 25th to October 1st, 2008.
The cancellation of this working visit has been agreed to by the Hon. Prime Minister of Malaysia.
This cancellation is pursuant to the uncertain global economic climate, the seriousness of which warrants the Deputy Prime Minister’ full attention in ensuring the continued resilience of the nation’s economy.
As he was only recently appointed as the Finance Minister on 17th September, the Deputy Prime Minister is of the view that he needs to give his full attention to the economy, taking in various briefings and updates on the current economic situation from various departments and agencies under the Ministry of Finance.
Pursuant to the cancellation of this visit, the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim will represent the country and lead the Malaysian delegation at the 63rd General Assembly Of the United Nations.
He will then deliver the address to the General Assembly on Spetember 27th, 2008, where the Deputy Prime Minister was originally slated to speak. Among other things the speech will touch on MalaysiaÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s stand on a number of issues such as those relating to the nationÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s sovereignty, the world food crisis, and the problem of pirates operating in regional waters.
