KANGAR, July 23 (Bernama) — An administration based on the “wasatiah” (moderation) principle will ensure happiness, comfort and great success for the nation, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Saturday.
“It is very important to continue the principle because it is what Islam really is. There is no extremism in Islam…if we practice extremism then we have strayed from the true teachings of Islam.
“We should practice wasatiah in administration if we want happiness, comfort and success because it is the best way (to administer the country),” he said when meeting imams and principals and teachers of religious schools at the Kangar Industrial Training Institute.
The Prime Minister said he was proud to meet leaders who were very influential at the ground level of Muslim society.
Najib said the role of imams was very important in shaping the character and mindset of the people to develop a more successful and excellent Muslim society.
He later presented RM10,000 each to nine religious schools, and RM1,000 each to the imams for late night after-prayer meals during Ramadan.
