KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 (Bernama) — Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the police will prepare the documents to rescind restriction orders immediately after consultations with the Home Ministry following the proposal to abolish the Restricted Residence 1933 33) which was tabled in parliament by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Wednesday.
He said the police had outlined strategies to be used in the absence of the act.
However, he said national security and public order would be at the centre of all police planning and strategies in the present era of transformation.
“We wish to stress that although the act has been abolished, existing laws are adequate to tackle crimes ,” he said in a statement.
Ismail clarified that the act was formulated and implemented for the purpose of checking individual or syndicate activities in organised crimes.
