KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak expressed hope for the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) to continue being an important institution for delivering news in the country.

“I wish the best to Bernama. Bernama has an important role and hope that it will continue to provide innovation as it always has.

“Hopefully Bernama will remain as an important institution in the landscape of delivering news and information in Malaysia,” he said in his speech during a breaking of fast function with the media, hosted by Bernama at Wisma Bernama here Monday.

Najib was the first prime minister to visit the news agency that was established 43 years ago.

He also said he was happy that Bernama was involved with delivering news in the country’s main languages, as well as foreign languages like Arabic.

Besides a photo archive, Bernama is also home to a radio station (Radio24), and a television station which is broadcasted on Astro’s channel 502.

He said Bernama’s employees, comprising various races and background, clearly reflected Malaysia’s microcosm.

“The variety of staff is very multi racial. This is the true microcosm of Malaysia,” said Najib who was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
