PETALING JAYA: Opportunities are abundant for Malaysians of all races to achieve success in the country, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Prime Minister said what was needed was planning, hard work and discipline.

“Although the Government is not able to ensure the success of each individual, it is the Government’s responsibility to provide the best ecosystem to optimise every potential.

“I would like to call upon the Chinese community to continue working together for a better future for our families and children,” he said in his Chinese New Year message.

Najib expressed gratitude that as a result of the hard work of all parties, Malaysia continues to be on the right track to achieve its national vision of becoming a high-income developed nation.

“This momentum should be pushed further and the time has not come for us to declare victory and move into the comfort zone.

“We must continue to work hard to achieve new success,” he said.

Najib also hoped Malaysians of all races would continue with the tradition of visiting open houses hosted by their Chinese friends.

“May this open house tradition and the visits continue to be the tie that bind the hearts of all of us in the spirit of the 1Malaysia family.

“I wish all Malaysians of the Chinese community a Happy New Year. May the Year of the Rabbit bring peace, health and prosperity to all,” he said.

In Muar, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin wished the Chinese community Gong Xi Fa Cai.

He said the community’s tradition of having a reunion dinner before New Year’s eve, would bring families closer.

“Chinese New Year is also celebrated by other races and fosters greater understanding among the people.

“We hope all will celebrate this joyous occasion in the spirit of 1Malaysia,” he said after visiting flood victims in Pagoh yesterday.
