KUANTAN, Jan 31 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will launch the Volunteer Brigade comprising former trainees of the National Service Training Programme at Bandar Dara Chini, Pekan on Saturday.
National Service Training Department Director-General Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said more than 10,000 visitors were expected to attend the launching ceremony at 11am.
He said 3,000 former trainees of the National Service Training Programme would join the Volunteer Brigade.
He said the idea of setting up the Volunteer Brigade was mooted by Najib himself at a meeting between the Prime Minister and the trainees at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium last year.
“The setting up of the brigade would enable the former trainees to serve the community where the knowledge and experience obtained during the training programme could be expanded,” he said.
So far, he said, the department had trained more than 600,000 people at 85 centres throughout the country and 15,000 former trainees of the programme were expected to join the Volunteer Brigade with a target of 200 trainees from each centre.
Meanwhile, Abdul Hadi said the department was preparing a working paper to be presented to the cabinet to provide an incentive payment for members of the brigade.
