BAGAN SERAI, Jan 14 (Bernama) — Jalan Banjar in Kampung Masjid Tinggi here has taken on an air of festivity as numerous preparations herald the visit of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in conjunction with the ‘Kenduri Rakyat’ today.
‘Aroh Ganal’ might sound strange to some but the expression which means ‘big feast’, which would be attended by about 5,000 people, is the talk of all and sundry in the village.
Five cows have been slaughtered to dish out beef kurma which is the traditional cuisine of the Banjars, the majority of the 2,000 residents in the village.
Feast co-ordinator Zainal Abidin Hanafiah said 38 cooks were involved in preparing the feast.
Describing the residents as fortunate in having been picked by the prime minister, the Barisan Nasional (BN) Semanggol State Assembly co-ordinator said the gathering was fully supported by the opposition.
He said the village mosque committee would have a closed-door meeting with Najib when he stopped for ‘Zohor’ before attending the feast.
Zainal Abidin said Najib, who would be accompanied by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, would also visit the Banjar Gallery near the mosque.
‘Kenduri Rakyat’ is one of the prime minister’s programmes, in conjunction with his visit to several parliamentary areas in the state.
