PM Tells Felda Community To Have Confidence In Listing Of FGVH

KUALA KUBU BAHARU, Jan 6 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today urged the Felda community to place full confidence in the listing of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Sdn Bhd (FGVH), saying it will ensure them a more secure future and, perhaps, even a windfall in four to five months.

“I will personnally take an interest (in the venture) to make sure that the Felda community garners maximum profit, as much as possible, from this plan,” he said when addressing the settlers at Felda Gedangsa during his visit to Hulu Selangor.

Najib said the listing would take the settlers on their second quantum leap of becoming shareholders of a global company reaping high dividends.

Their first quantum leap turned them from landless poor living from hand to mouth to owners of relatively affluent homes, he said.

The prime minister gave the assurance that FGVH, which is expected to be listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia in April, would be more professionally managed to make it a leading plantation company in the world.

Najib said the time has come for Felda to dominate the global market to reap bigger profits.

“It is for this reason that the listing is necessary, as it will place Felda on a more sound footing.

“We will manage Felda in a more organised manner, with the commercial aspects run commercially and at the highest possible level of professionalism,” he said.

“We will collaborate with multinationals as our partners, instead of remaining a mere producer of palm oil, and garner profits in the markets of Europe, China and other countries,” he said.

Najib also said that while Felda is corporatised in terms of plantation management, there will be no disruption in the socio-economic programmes for the Felda community, such as better infrastructure and welfare aid.

“Whatever it is, we must believe that it is the government which developed Felda all along, giving 1,001 benefits to the Felda community.

“I will not betray the Felda legacy, more so when the founder of Felda was my father (the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, the second prime minister) who toiled for years to build it up.

“I am determined to do my best so that Tun Abdul Razak’s legacy does not remain just in the memory but is taken far in the 21st century,” he said.

Najib also reminded the Felda settlers not to be fooled by the instigation of certain quarters bent on foiling the FGVH listing plan.

He said the government’s efforts to enrich the people, including through the FGVH listing, are being manipulated by the opposition to draw support for themselves.

“The opposition attempts to create chaos in the Felda community for it fears that once we deliver on our promise, the Felda community will reap huge dividends and this will be to their (opposition’s) detriment in the next elections,” he said.
