PM seeking to make Cairo-KL evacuation free for M’sians

KUALA LUMPUR:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says he seeking to ensure that Malaysians evacuated from Cairo and flown back to Kuala Lumpur are not burdened with paying for their flights.

He would talk to Malaysia Airlines (MAS), AirAsia and Tabung Haji on the matter, he told reporters after visiting the Kampung Baru mosque.

The rest, he said would be bourne by the government.

“I will try to ensure that parents of the students do not have to bear the expense of bringing their children home.

“But those who have already bought their tickets, we would not be able to reimburse,” he said.

He also said a Saudi prince had agreed to sponsor two flights of Boeing 747 to fly Malaysians from Jeddah to Kuala Lumpur.

Najib said that, currently, 6,800 Malaysian students from Cairo had made it to Jeddah.

About 3,500 more were expected to be evacuated to Jeddah by the end of the day, he said.
