PEKAN, Aug 27 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today launched 250 1Malaysia D’Mart shops at Felda schemes throughout the country.

Speaking at the Felda Chini Timur 2 scheme here, the Prime Minister said the shops would sell 1Malaysia products at prices that are much lower than are offered for branded goods at other retail outlets.

“1Malaysia products are guaranteed to be of the same quality as branded goods, but the difference in prices is huge.

“For example, branded sardines cost RM3 a can while the same amount of 1Malaysia sardines is sold for only RM1.30. Similarly, a bottle of branded chilli sauce sells for RM2.10 while the 1Malaysia product is priced at just RM1.80,” Najib said.

He said that D’Mart shops sold not only food stuffs and other daily essentials but such items as diapers as well.

Najib said the opening of the 1Malaysia shops showed that the government was concerned for the welfare of the people, contrary to the allegation of the opposition that it was always raising the prices of goods.

“With the shops, people at Felda can save up to 40 per cent in expenses, and this will be of great help to them,” he said.

Also present were Malaysian ambassador to the United States Datuk Seri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis and executive director of Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd Datuk Ammer Ali Mydin.

A the breaking of fast with Felda Chini settlers, Najib announced an allocation of RM6.88 million for repairing and upgrading a mosque, a health clinic, a community hall and other facilities.
