PM Expected To Open 1Malaysia Mini Cultural Village In Sibu

SIBU, Feb 21 (Bernama) — Come Saturday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is expected to attend two evening functions organised by the local Chinese community.

According to Datuk Lau Nai Ho, who is the chairman of the United Chinese Association (UCA), Sibu, Najib would declare open the 1Malaysia Mini Cultural Village near the Bukit Aup Jubilee Park at 9pm.

The village is businessman Ying Tieng Chai’s private project to preserve, as well as showcase, the state’s various ethnic and Chinese culture and traditions. It will be part of the town’s offerings to visitors and tourists.

Speaking at a press conference here today, Lau said Najib would also launch the 1Malaysia 1UCA theme at the same venue.

The UCA is a federation of about seven Chinese associations in Sibu while the 1Malaysia 1UCA is its newly-adopted theme to denote its significance in uniting and representing the various associations.

Lau said a memorandum on problems affecting the state Chinese community would also be presented to Najib by Federation of Chinese Associations Sarawak president Wong Aik Long after the event.

Present at the press conference were state local government and community development minister Datuk Sri Wong Soon Koh and Lanang member of parliament Datuk Tiong Thai King.

Meanwhile, in a separate programme on the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will attend a meet-the-people session at SJK (Cina) Tong Ah in Selangau near here at 3.30pm.

According to a statement from the state information department, the visit is part of Muhyiddin’s itinerary to Bintulu and Miri interior, the following day.
