KANGAR, Jan 27 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today expressed confidence that Perlis will remain a stronghold of the Barisan Nasional (BN) so long as BN leaders in the state maintain harmony and solidarity among themselves.
“Perlis has all along been a BN stronghold and will remain so,” he told a 1Malaysia gathering at the Simpang Empat hall, here.
He said the close relationship and cordiality among the three main leaders in Perlis — Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu and two former menteris besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Tan Sri Dr Abdul Hamid Pawanteh — gives a good impression.
“Given the cordiality among these three leaders, I do not see any reason why we cannot retain Perlis (in the election),” he said.
Najib said he was touched by the warm welcome accorded by the people of Perlis to him and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The prime minister said many people who met him today expressed their thanks to the government and added that this showed that the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) has reached the targeted people.
At the event, Najib announced an allocation of RM4 million as compensation for Perlis padi farmers whose crop has been destroyed by weeds.
