KLUANG, March 26 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has approved a RM105 million allocation for building the Kahang Dam here.
He said the dam could help resolve water woes Kluang residents were facing particularly during draughts.
Speaking at a community function here, the prime said construction of the dam together with a water treatment plant would begin early next year.
“I am very concerned about this because not having regular water supply is very disturbing to the people,” he said, adding that the allocation was approved so as to improve the quality of life of people living in Kluang.
Water rationing has to be enforced in Kluang whenever the water level at the Sembrong Barat Dam drops, which has become a regular feature the last few years causing much difficulty to the people.
Najib also said he was deeply touched by the huge turnout at the function whereby some 10,000 people turned up, far surpassing the 6,000 crowd expected.
Also present were his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman and wife Datin Prof Dr Jamilah Ariffin.
