PUTRAJAYA, March 15 (Bernama) — Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Tuesday received the Bintang Semangat Padi Kelas Pertama (Emas) award, the highest Scouting award from the Scouts Association of Malaysia.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin presented the award at the association’s national-level presentation of awards and medals held at Istana Melawati, here.
The Bintang Semangat Padi award is only bestowed on outstanding figures and eligible state and national leaders.
At the ceremony, the Raja Permaisuri Agong was also proclaimed as National Scouts Honorary Commissioner and the prime minister, as the Malaysian Scouts President General.
Also present was National Chief Scout of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr Shafie Mohd Salleh.
A total of 130 people were presented with Scouting awards and medals today, namely the Bintang Pahlawan, Bintang Semangat Padi Perak, Bintang Semangat Rimba Emas, Bintang Semangat Rimba Perak, Bintang Semangat Rimba Perak (Honorary), and the Pingat Perkhidmatan Gemilang and Pingat Perkhidmatan Cemerlang.
The awards and medals were given in recognition of the contributions of Scouts leaders to the society and nation in line with their commitment to the movement.
The special award of Bintang Pahlawan is the highest award given to a Scout leader or member for bravery in saving lives ad property, and the award today went to Sekolah Menengah Kapar Indah Boy Scout, Muhammad Syazwan Zakaria.
Among the recipients of the Bintang Semangat Padi Perak, the association’s second highest award, were Dewan Negara President Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan and Energy, Green Technology and Water Deputy Minister Noriah Kasnon were among the recipients of the Bintang Semangat Rimba Perak for their commendable services to the Scout movement.
