HULU LANGAT, March 25 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that the support of the people in Selangor for the Barisan Nasional (BN) is growing due to the failure of the state government under the opposition front to fulfill its pledges made during the 2008 general election.

“We want to ask the opposition, how many of the the promises made during the 2008 general election have been fulfilled?

“The 20 per cent reduction in assessment, has it been implemented? What about the business premises tax reduction of 10 per cent? Free health services for senior citizens in Selangor, has it been implemented? All of them have yet to be implemented.

“That is why the rakyat have more faith in the BN. We have been cheated once, that is enough. We don’t want to be cheated again,” he said to loud applause from the more than 5,000 people who attended the ceremony to give assistance to flood victims in the Hulu Langat and Ampang parliamentary constituencies at the Dusun Tua National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN), here.

Najib, who is also the Selangor Umno Liaison chairman, said he always gave priority to the people in the state.

“I should be in Sepang to watch the F1 race, but Hamilton (F1 racer Lewis Hamilton) can wait, the people of Hulu Langat are more important and should be given priority.

“Furthermore, Hamilton cannot vote, but you all can vote,” he said.

At the function, Najib announced an aid of almost RM6 million for the 3,578 flood victims in the Hulu Langat and Ampang parliamentary constituencies.

The Prime Minister said the aid included RM500 cash each for the flood victims with a total value of about RM1.7 million from the National Security Council (NSC).

The Yayasan 1MDB also contributed total aid of RM2.5 million including RM500 in cash to every flood victim besides contributing to the cost of repairing 100 houses and replacing equipment at the mosque and surau affected by the flood on March 7.

Najib also gave away contributions from Kelab Putra 1Malysia in the form of two mattresses and a gas cooker to each family, saying that all aid would be distributed to each family within three days.
