A Party delegation, led by Nguyen Thi Nuong, member of the Party Central Committee, attended the 59th Congress of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), Malaysia’s ruling party, in Kuala Lumpur from March 24-28.
Najib Razak, former permanent deputy president of UMNO and Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, was elected as new UMNO president.
The Vietnamese delegation was received by the new UMNO president Najib Razak and Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi on separate occasions.
The two sides expressed their hope to further promote relations between the two parties and people, contributing to strengthening Vietnam-Malaysia multifaceted cooperation.
Ms Nuong thanked Malaysia for its assistance to Vietnam and expressed her belief that the two parties and countries’ relations would further develop in the interests of the two peoples, and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
The Vietnamese delegation also met with other foreign delegates attending the congress.
