KUANTAN, May 14 (Bernama) — The Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, today paid tribute to the country’s transformation programme initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, saying it has had a positive impact on the people.

He said the programme, involving transformation in the government, economic, political and rural sectors, had brought much benefit to the people.

The 1Malaysia concept of “People First; Performance Now” incorporating the 1Malaysia People’s Housing, 1Malaysia People’s Aid, 1Malaysia People’s Shop, 1Malaysia Clinic and schooling aid had provided a better life for the people, regardless of race, position and political ideology, he said.

“I congratulate the prime minister for having developed the transformation programme,” he said when opening the first meeting of the fifth session of the 12th Pahang State Legislative Assembly at Wisma Sri Pahang, here.

Also present at the opening ceremony were the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah; the Tengku Puan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Iskandar; the Tengku Muda of Pahang, Tengku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ahmad Shah and Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.

Sultan Ahmad Shah also said that the proposed listing of Felda Global Ventures Holdings on Bursa Malaysia had brought a windfall to more than 112,000 settlers in the country, reflecting the efficiency of the government helmed by Najib in moulding Felda into a global commodities conglomerate.

The cash payment of RM15,000 for every settler family was in appreciation of their commitment and sacrifice over the years, from the time that the first Felda scheme was opened in Lurah Bilut in 1956, he said.

He said that over the last 20 years, Pahang had continued to enjoy domestic and foreign investment amounting to RM30.27 billion, and that last year the highest investment sum of RM6.3 billion was approved.

The sultan congratulated the Pahang Government for organising the Pahang Economic Convention 2012 recently, saying that an outcome was the implementation soon of several people-friendly projects such as housing, an integrated transportation terminal, small and medium industries business centre and creative arts galleries in the districts.

“I am sure the Pahang Government will continue to implement development programmes in the religious, educational, agricultural, health and entrepreneurial sectors for the benefit of the people,” he said.
