I welcomed His Excellency Samdech Hun Sen, Cambodian Prime Minister to my office on his official visit to Malaysia this morning.

We reaffirmed our commitment to deepen relations between our two countries and I also conveyed my appreciation to the Prime Minister for being gracious hosts to Malaysian investors in Cambodia.

Over the years, Malaysia and Cambodia have enjoyed close bilateral relations in areas including trade and investment, education, tourism and culture and we agreed to continue enhancing Malaysia – Cambodia economic cooperation.

We also discussed new key areas of cooperation to explore. With regards to our cooperation in the agriculture industry, I witnessed the signing of the Letter of Intent on Agricultural Cooperation between the two countries to finalise and expedite the signing of Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Cooperation later on. I am pleased that Cambodia extended an invitation for Malaysian companies to participate in the supply chain management and marketing of rice production in Cambodia and I call for Malaysians to take advantage of this opportunity.

As global consumers gain confidence in the halal process, coupled with the build up of demand for better quality products and services, Cambodia has also expressed interest in Malaysia’s halal industry and I conveyed my readiness to share Malaysia’s expertise and experience towards this endeavour.

Malaysia and Cambodia also welcomed the negotiation on the Memorandum of Understanding on Combating Trafficking in Persons between Cambodia and Malaysia. To match the growing demand in our labour industry, Cambodia has agreed to allow more Cambodians to work here.

We also agreed to strengthen, promote and develop cooperation in the International Volunteers Programme of MyCorps in Cambodia and we welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the International Volunteers Programme of Mycorps Cambodia.

Malaysia and Cambodia also recognised the mutual benefit that could be derived from the information and broadcasting cooperation between our two countries and to that effect, we also welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Information and Broadcasting Cooperation.

I am confident our bilateral ties will grow even stronger and I look forward to the further enhancement of Malaysia-Cambodia ties.
