KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) — ‘Nambikei’ or the trust of every Malaysian of Indian origin is most important in fostering the sharing spirit between the government and the community, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
He said the government had carried out various efforts to assist the community including setting up a special cabinet committee on the Indian community which had succeeded in helping to resolve numerous problems faced by the community.
Among the problems resolved within a rather short period was the one pertaining to documentation such as in applying for the identity card and citizenship where 1,642 people had obtained their identity card, and 1,673 had received approval for Malaysian citizenship, he said.
He said this when launching the “Malam Hiburan Jom Ke Deepavali” organised by the Association of Lebuh Ampang Traders, here tonight which was attended by 5,000 people.
Also present were the Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin and his deputy, Datuk M. Saravanan.
Najib said what was being propagated was in line with one of the principles on which the 1Malaysia concept was based, which was inclusiveness where the government must assist all Malaysian nationals who needed its help.
“This clearly shows that we are certainly fair to all the races in the country including the Indian community, whether they are Muslims or Hindus,” he said.
The Prime Minister said that the success of the Indian community in their business undertakings in the vicinity of Lebuh Ampang clearly showed that the community was no longer lagging behind in the mainstream of development in the country.
In fact, their success could become a role model for Malaysians to be diligent in all their endeavours in order to succeed, he added.
