PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s transformation programmes have been described as the most comprehensive and progressive in the world and their success have been attributed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is personally taking charge of the efforts.
The success of the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) was also due to the Government’s strong commitment to see it succeed and the initiative to include the people in their formulations.
Commonwealth Partnership for Technology Management Fellow Sir Charles Masefield said what was unique about the Government’s efforts were its inclusiveness where they sought information and views from the people on what were important to them instead of the other way around.
“The key to the programmes’ success is that it is being led personally by the Prime Minister. Any programme like this, unless it is led by the top will not be successful,” he said at the Langkawi International Dialogue (LID) yesterday.
In his keynote address during the opening of the ninth edition of the LID on Sunday, Najib had offered the dialogue’s African partners the GTP to be used as a model for them to emulate.
“Heads of government who were briefed on the workings of the programmes were impressed with the transformation plans, particularly the degree of focus that are manifesting and the execution of plans in breathtaking speed,” said Masefield.
He said the heads of government were also impressed with the short space of time taken to make significant changes through the programmes, such as reducing the crime rate and boosting literacy and numeracy among the people.
