PETALING JAYA: World opinion will turn against Israel and its close ally the United States if the violence in Gaza continues unabated, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
He said Malaysia would apply all available means, including voicing its concerns at international forums such as the United Nations to influence Israel to stop its campaign of violence against the Palestinians.
“At the end of the day, it’s a world power such as the United States that can decide if the Tel Aviv regime will change its attitude.
“But there will be a rise of world opinion against the two countries if the attacks continue unabated. They have to change course,†he told reporters after handing over the funding from the economic stimulus package to representatives of Chinese schools at SJK (C) Chee Wen Subang Jaya yesterday.
Najib said US president-elect Barack Obama had not said that there would be changes in the US policy on Israel and the Palestine problem.
On another matter, Najib said there was a marked improvement in the support from the Chinese community for the Barisan Nasional in Kuala Terengganu.
