KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, spent time to watch the musical theatre, Lat Kampung Boy Sebuah Muzikal at the Panggung Sari, Istana Budaya, here Wednesday night.
The two-and-a-half-hour show was also attended by Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim and his wife, Datin Seri Maznah Rais.
The adaptation from the graphic novel, “Kampung Boy”, was the first produced by Datuk Mohd Nor Khalid or better known as ‘Lat’, which was staged for the first time under the patronage of the Prime Minister.
It is being staged for 21 days beginning March 16 until April 5, and directed by actors Hans Isaac and Harith Iskander via the production house, Tall Order Production (TOP) Sdn Bhd.
Produced jointly by the National Translation Institute, Malaysia (ITNM) and the Ministry of Information Communication and Culture, the main character was played by actor/singer Awie who appeared as Lat while Atilia appeared as Faezah, the wife of the famous local cartoonist.
The cast included Jalil Hamid, Omar Abdullah, who played Lat’s father, and Douglas Lim.
The musical theatre revolves around Lat’s life in his village in Gopeng, Perak since his childhood until he grew up to become a renown cartoonist.
Meanwhile, Rais said the musical ought to be filmed as it had its own charm through the hilarious comic characters.
“The play depicts the life of a kampung boy to a city boy and how one could champions the arts,” he said.
In addition, he said, performing arts had shown significant changes and elements of attraction.
