KANGAR, Jan 27 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today urged Muslims to be united to ensure continued strength of the community.
He said conflicts among Muslims had resulted in tragedies in the history of Islamic civilisation.
Addressing the congregation after performing Friday prayer at Al Maamor Mosque in Bongor Kudong, here, he cited the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem which is now controlled by non-Muslims because the Muslims were disunited.
Najib hoped that from the happenings in the world which had put the Muslim community at a disadvantage, Muslims in this country would learn lessons by forging unity and loyalty.
On another note, he said the government was always working at safeguarding the welfare of the people.
“We are not a ‘slogan’ government, but we prove our capability by successfully implementing various programmes with the cooperation of the people,” he added.
Najib also promised to consider an allocation for upgrading of Al Maamor Mosque following a spontaneous request from the mosque’s management.
Earlier, the prime minister who was accompanied by Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu and state Islamic Religious Committee chairman Jafperi Othman, was welcomed on arrival by the mosque officials.
After Friday prayer which was led by Perlis mufti Dr Juanda Jaya as the imam, Najib joined the congregation for a village feast at the mosque grounds.
