BUKIT GANTANG, Jan 13 (Bernama) — Following the success of the Barisan Nasional State Assemblymen’s Club in organising the retreat in two states, namely Selangor and Perak, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak suggested that the club carries out similar programmes in the other states.

“If there is time, we will do it (retreat) again…don’t know when is the general election…let’s just work,” he said in his speech at the dinner and official opening of the BN State Assemblymen’s Club Retreat at Simpang, here Friday night.

Najib, who is also the BN chairman, said the programme was the best time for every elected representative to demonstrate their leadership style to be evaluated by the public.

“This is how we show what type of people the elected representative is, whether he/she works hard or not, trustworthy or not, is he/she working well or not, this is the challenge before us, when we have power.

“That is why I want all of us to be close to the people’s heart,” he said.

He said the presence of about 30,000 people at the dinner tonight showed the effectiveness of the retreat programme and that public acceptance of the BN was growing.

“This augurs well for the Barisan Nasional,” he said to loud applause from the crowd.

The three-day retreat programme of the BN State Assemblymen’s Club in the state beginning Thursday involved 135 State Assemblymen from all over the country.
