Najib To Open Heads Of Mission Conference

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will open and deliver the keynote address at the 7th Heads of Mission Conference at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on Monday.

Later in the evening, the Prime Minister will host a dinner for the heads of mission who will also attend a dinner graced by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement today.

The conference with the theme “Malaysian Foreign Policy:Future Direction for 2009 to 2015” from June 21-27 will begin with the 4th Honorary Consuls Meeting from June 18-22.

The heads of mission will then travel to Sarawak and Sabah to be briefed on the economic development programmes implemented by the respective state governments.

They will also attend a briefing on the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score) by the State Secretary of Sarawak.

The briefing will also include a dialogue session with Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

The 4th Honorary Consuls Meeting to be hosted by Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Aman is a platform for all honorary consuls to share and discuss their experience in promoting trade and investment to Malaysia, the statement said.

The honorary consuls will also tour Terengganu and attend a briefing on the state’s development and a dinner hosted by Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said.

The heads of mission and honorary consuls will also be briefed on significant domestic policies as well as government development plans under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“Some 75 trade commissioners from the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), officers from the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) and senior officials from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) will participate in the conference,” the statement said.
