KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will officiate at the MIC annual general assembly this year, to be held from Sept 12-13 at the Putra World Trade Centre here.
MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said this would be the first time Najib, who became premier in April, would be officiating.
Speaking to reporters after presenting Maju Institute of Educational Development educational loan cheques to 143 students, Samy Vellu said about 1,600 delegates from 145 divisions throughout the country were expected to attend the assembly.
The elections for the deputy president, three vice-presidents and 23 Central Working Committee members would be held after the opening.
Samy Vellu said the dates for the candidates to file nominations for the various posts would be decided by the Central Working Committee later.
