KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will host a luncheon for major religious leaders on Feb 15 in conjunction with the World Inter-faith Harmony Week.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said all inter-faith bodies, religious organisations and non-governmental organisations were encouraged to organise talks, charitable programmes and other initiatives this month.
“Malaysia is particularly blessed because the first week of February this year coincides with three major religious and cultural celebrations,” he said in a statement.
Maulidur Rasul falls on Sunday, Chap Goh Meh is on Monday and Thaipusam is on Tuesday.
“This means that Malaysians from three major faiths and cultures have special reasons to celebrate during this inter-faith harmony week,” Koh added.
The World Inter-faith Harmony Week is celebrated during the first week of February.
Koh said the observances were to reaffirm that “mutual understanding and inter-religious dialogue constitute important dimensions of a culture of peace”.
