KOTA KINABALU: Hitches and hiccups in Sabah-Kuala Lumpur relationship should be resolved through dialogue, not confrontation, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“So long as we are committed to the ideals of Malaysia and subscribe to dialogue rather than confrontation, I dare say there isn’t an issue out there that we cannot resolve,” he said when opening the Sabah International Business Conference and Expo at the 1Borneo hypermall in Kota Kinabalu.

Acknowledging that there were different interpretations of the events leading to the formation of the country, he said there were still mismatch between expectations and reality.

“But I for one remain convinced that all channels of communication between Sabah and Kuala Lumpur remain open and functioning,” Najib added.

He said the federal government was fully aware that Sabah that the state had special needs that demanded special attention.

In this regard, the Finance Minister said the state had been provided massive funding under the 9th Malaysia Plan to alleviate poverty and narrow regional development imbalance.

Najib said the federal government and the state were working as one to make the Sabah Corridor a reality for the development of the oil palm, oil and gas, biomass, bio technology and non metallic minerals such as silica and limestone.
