PETALING JAYA, June 23 — A portion of the Sungai Besi airport site will be allocated for the government’s affordable quality housing programme, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.
The prime minister said after the airport is closed down, “a certain portion” of the land will be used for the programme, a public-private partnership with property developers to offer quality homes, built using the industrial building system, to qualified applicants.
“It’s very convenient (and it is a) large area,” said Najib in an interview with the Chinese-language One FM radio station today.
Government-owned strategic developer 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) recently signed several agreements to pave the way for the Sungai Besi airport land to be transformed into Bandar Malaysia.
1MDB said Bandar Malaysia will be a mixed development filled with liveable spaces for work/life balance, such as open green spaces and a people’s avenue as well as institutions of higher learning.
