KUALA LUMPUR: To show that the Government is moving quickly to stimulate the economy, some RM3.2bil worth of projects will be awarded this week, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced.
This allocation from the mini-budget which was tabled in Parliament just two weeks ago will be used to improve schools and police stations, he said in a statement.
Later, in a dialogue with TV1 that was telecast live, Najib said that when he comes to power, he would make changes to the implementation of the New Economic Policy.
“We will go back to the spirit of the NEP — that is to eradicate poverty among all races,” he said.
He added that he would also discuss amendments to the party’s constitution to enable it to change its election rules and practices.
In an interview earlier, Najib also dropped a hint on what he wants from his Cabinet members. Those in his Cabinet, he said, must have ability, credibility and general public acceptance so that they can help him institute reforms in the party and Government.
