PUTRAJAYA, May 28 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak spent about three hours checking on activities and programmes lined up for the 2011 Putrajaya Youth Gathering here Saturday.
He was accompanied by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek in the walkabout which began at 12.30pm.
Youths gathered for the event were very happy to meet the prime minister and did not miss the opportunity to shake hands with Najib.
Before going on the walkabout, Najib had witnessed the finals of the Sasuke Malaysia competition and launched the 1Malaysia Training Programme.
In launching the programme, Najib said it was important to equip Malaysian youths with skills and knowledge for their benefit in line with the community college concept.
He said such a programme could help keep them away from negative influences.
Najib later launched the 2011 One Million Youth gathering.
Early Sunday morning, Najib is scheduled join particants of the gathering in watching a telecast of the Champions League final between his favourite English Premier League team, Manchester United, against Barcelona, which will be played at Wembley Stadium, London.
