KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak tonight joined some 5,000 people including tourists in celebrating the 1Malaysia Lantern Tourism Festival 2011 at the Central Market here.
The event organised by the Tourism Ministry in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Central Market was launched by the Prime Minister himself with fireworks displays and dragon dance and wushu performances making it an all the more memorable affair.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen who led the lantern procession which wound its way from Central Market to Jalan Petaling was also accompanied by Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.
The participants of the procession carried lanterns with batik motifs.
The festival, which enters its third year this year, targets to attract 40,000 domestic and foreign tourists.
