PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak hosted a tea party for about 600 of his online friends at his official residence Seri Perdana here.
During the gathering, Najib fielded several questions, ranging from 1Malaysia, Vision 2020, the future of football in the country and his choice of music.
The Prime Minister said he is a “social listener” of music, particularly when he exercises on his treadmill “in between watching the History Channel and the news”.
He said he listens mostly to 70s and 80s music and also Malay songs.
“It’s rather embarrassing to tell you my musical tastes because if I tell you, you will know which era I belong to,” he said.
“I don’t understand the music which my children like.
“I do appreciate some of the latest songs, including Malay songs, but I’m not that serious into music that I’m able to rattle off the names of the songs.”
Asked how he was able to remain calm while on the job, Najib said: “When we are calm, we can think. If we panic, we cannot think properly and rationally. If we can’t think properly, then we might end up making the wrong decisions.”
Najib revealed that he personally sends his own tweets, contrary to common belief that those messages might be the work of his aides.
He added that he would usually tweet during his journey to and from Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, while he sends more at night before he calls it a day.
“I find the response I get on my Twitter site rather amusing. Some people will ask if this is really the Prime Minister or is it my personal assistant who is doing this.
“I can assure you that the messages come directly from me,” he said.
This was the second tea party hosted by Najib for his online friends, following the first one in March last year.
