PUTRAJAYA, Jan 4 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will host the working visit of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in conjunction with the Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat, here Thursday.
Both leaders will be appraising the progress of the existing bilateral cooperation as well as exploring new initiatives and potentials for further strengthening of the already cordial relationship between Malaysia and Singapore.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that a joint statement would be issued by both leaders at the conclusion of the Leaders’ Retreat.
The first Leaders’ Retreat was held in May 2007 in Langkawi, followed by the second retreat in May 2010 in Singapore, the statement said.
“On June 27 in Putrajaya, Malaysia and Singapore signed the Agreement to Implement the 1990 Points of Agreement (POA) on Malayan Railway (KTMB) Land in Singapore, and the 2010 Leaders’ Joint Statement,” it said.
The statement said there had been significant progress in the implementation of this agreement, including its aspects relating to cooperation in Iskandar Malaysia, reflecting the strong commitment by the leaderships of both countries to elevate the bilateral ties to greater height.
