KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak hosted dinner Sunday night for heads of state and government, ministers and officials from 15 countries from Africa and the Caribbean attending the Ninth Langkawi International Dialogue (LID 2011).
The reception, held at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur, started with live cultural performances.
As the host, Najib said the occasion was all the more meaningful as it commemorated the dialogue’s 15th anniversary, especially for delegates attending the LID since its inception in 1995.
“So, tonight we celebrate 15 years of LID, 15 years of valuable contributions towards the well-being of our communities and the prosperity of our nations,” he said.
Najib also expressed gratitude to the London-based Commonwealth Partnership for Technology Management (CPTM) and the Smart Partnership movements for their significant contribution to LID since its birth.
The CPTM has been largely responsible for developing a wide network connecting individuals, governments and private sectors across continents, he said.
“After 15 years, I believe we have arrived at a moment that requires us to reflect on our collective past and to plan together for our future,” he said.
While enjoying success from this dialogue, the premier said governments and countries represented should not be complacent in order to sustain achievements and to progress further.
“There is no better or more valuable commodity than our people themselves and this year’s LID theme, touching as it does on socio-economic transformation, is particularly important because of its direct and lasting impact on our people and on their quality of life.
“We have worked so hard today and we have to work even harder in the days to come,” Najib added.
