PERTH, Oct 30 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wrapped up his “tour of duty” of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) by hosting an Australian-style barbecue, especially for the Malaysian community here.
Held at the scenic Burswood Park, “fenced in by the lovely Swan river”, about 1,000 people turned up to mingle and take pictures with the prime minister who has been here since Oct 26, for the CHOGM and related meetings.
Najib told the crowd that after a hectic schedule, it was good to relax with them and that he was happy to note the 1Malaysia spirit was very much alive here.
He asked for their support and backing to help the nation become a more progressive and vibrant country and achieve its aim to become a high income nation by 2020.
He said he and members of his Cabinet could not do this alone.
“We need the people of Malaysia, be it in Western Australia or wherever they are, to be behind us and strongly support us to achieve our goals,” he added.
Najib and wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, were at the function for about an hour before leaving for home.
Also present at the event were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman and his wife, Malaysian High Commissioner to Australia Datuk Salman Ahmad, his wife, Tengku Karina Tuan Yusoff, and Malaysian Consul-General in Perth, Hamidah Ashari.
