KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has commended the Special Taskforce to Facilitate Business (PEMUDAH), for its notable achievement last year in improving Malaysia’s ranking from 23rd to 18th spot in the World Bank Doing Business report.
“But the meaning of competitiveness is not in the ranking but in the experience itself; the experience of reduced processing time for licences, the reduced cost of doing business, clear and transparent processes and procedures,” he said in his message in the PEMUDAH 2011 Annual Report released today.
He said Pemudah’s move to also focus on the private sector, and not just the public delivery system makes sense, as national competitiveness is not just about the government alone.
“The private sector is equally pertinent,” he added.
Najib said Pemudah’s initiatives have conveyed the message that the government cares indeed about their concerns, and enough to make radical changes to ensure Malaysia remains competitive.
The Prime Minister in commending all of Pemudah’s efforts, looked forward to more positive results in the near future.
“Ultimately, for Malaysia to achieve its goal of a high-income economy by 2020, we have to ensure that our companies are competitive, the country is business-friendly, and a great place to work and live in,” he said.
