Najib Begins Work After Knee Operation

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 8 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today began his official duty after undergoing “arthoscopic” surgery on his left knee, which was injured during a sporting activity, at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on Monday.

The Prime Minister, who arrived at his office at Bangunan Perdana Putra at about 9am, appeared cheerful and healthy, dressed in a white long-sleeved shirt, blue necktie and dark jacket.

He later chaired the National Economic Council meeting which started at 9.30am.

Among those attending the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop and Minister of Information, Communications and Culture Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.

Also present were the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan, Finance Ministry Secretary-General Tan Sri Dr Wan Abd Aziz Wan Abdullah and Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement that Najib resumed his duty after the doctor treating him was satisfied with his recovery process.

“However, the doctor still advised him to restrict his daily activities for the time being until the Prime Minister has fully recovered,” the statement said.

This evening, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the breaking of the fast with Cabinet Ministers, Menteris Besar and former prime ministers at Seri Perdana, here.
