KOTA BAHARU, Jan 24 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Tuesday attended the wedding ceremony of the son of his political secretary Datuk Mohd Fatmi Che Salleh here.
Najib, who arrived at 1.30pm, also performed the sprinkling of “air mawar” or scented water on the couple, Fairuzuan Hamshi, 30, and Siti Zulaikha Azmi, 28.
Present were Umno vice-president who is Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Kelantan deputy Umno liaison chief Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin and several Barisan Nasional leaders.
Fairuzuan Hamshi said the prime minister’s presence at the ceremony was a priceless gift and thanked him for finding time to be there despite his busy schedule.
Fairuzuan Hamshi, a director of a company in Petaling Jaya and Siti Zulaikha, an officer at the Finance Ministry, have chosen Mauritius as their honeymoon destination.
Mohd Fatmi, who is Kota Baharu Umno division chief, said the prime minister’s presence had been awaited by the people as it allowed them to meet him.
“Although the prime minister is busy, he finds time to come to the ceremony and meet the people,” he said.
About 10,000 people attended the ceremony.
Najib later left for Penang to attend the Penang BN Chinese New Year open house, and the 1Malaysia Warrior’s Night organised by Malaysian Seni Silat Lincah Organisation.
