PADANG BESAR, Jan 27 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak assured Felda settlers they will continue to enjoy all their benefits even after the listing of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Sdn Bhd (FGVH) on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia.
The prime minister said they will continue to receive benefits such as the annual bonus and “duit raya” (festive cash) which they enjoy now, and the quantum may be even bigger.
“I give the assurance that when Felda is listed, everything which the Felda community enjoys will continue to be given to them.
“I hold to the trust of my late father (second prime minister Tun Razak Hussein) … I will not betray what he has struggled for. I will not do anything that will harm Felda,” he said after a walkabout at Felda Chuping near here Friday.
Najib said listing will make Felda an international commodity no longer restricted to producing just rubber or palm oil.
Felda has to dominate the world market for it to make real profit, and not remain a mere producer, he said.
“If we remain a producer, the multinational companies which buy from us will reap the profits while we make only a little,” he said.
Najib said one cannot be dependent on others to succeed in one’s business, but have to be smart and consider how to make huge profits.
The prime minister also touched on a windfall the settlers would be getting soon, but declined to elaborate, saying he would make an official announcement.
He announced an allocation of RM150,000 each to the mosques in Felda Chuping, Felda Mata Ayer and Felda Rimba Mas, besides another RM450,000 to repair the drains in the three schemes.
