PETALING JAYA, March 15 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has applauded the adoption of the new membrane filtration system, Actiflo Clarification Process and No-Dig Technology, for replacement of pipes in the water industry.
Whilst innovation and research and development (R&D) are occuring throughout the Malaysian water industry and along the supply chain, it is largely driven by the private sector, Najib said in his keynote address at the second Asia Pacific Regional Water Conference (APRWC), here Tuesday.
The keynote address was read by Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui.
“If we study other economies, we will notice changing trends. They have ventured beyond mere process and restructure of their R&D activities to meet global principles in environmental management and climate change,” said Najib.
Apart from ensuring clean water, he said they also take pains, to carry out R&D to ensure sustainability.
“Their water sector is seen to focus on challenges such as reducing its carbon footprint and developing more sustainable water treatment process,” he added.
Najib said the three-day conference which began today, is an ideal platform for an intellectual exchange, to enable Malaysia to develop as a fraternity within the water industry.
“I am confident that this conference will provide you with valuable insights that will help you nurture new business models that are equipped to face the challenges in this new technological and globalised age,” he added.
