MIRI, Feb 5 (Bernama) – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor are expected to grace the Malaysian Chinese New Year (CNY) open house at the Miri City Fan Square Sunday night.
About 20,000 people are expected to attend the event which will be launched by Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin and his wife, Toh Puan Norkiah.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Puan Seri Ragad Waleed Alkurdi Taib are among the distinguished guests expected at the function.
Various events have been lined-up for the occasion, including traditional dances and performances from local artists.
Before attending the CNY open house, Najib and his wife are expected to visit shops in a walkabout at Jalan Yu Seng Utara here.
Najib is also expected to stop for a drink at a coffee shop before returning to Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim and his deputies, Datuk Joseph Salang and Senator Datuk Maglin Dennis D’Cruz inspected a full dress rehearsal of the CNY open house Saturday night.
Rais invited residents to attend the CNY open house from 4pm while the opening ceremony would be held at 7.30pm.
