PUTRAJAYA, Jan 25 (Bernama) — The World Chinese Economic Forum (WCEF) today presented its Lifetime Achievement Award on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

It said the honour was in recognition of Najib’s bold measures and contributions in the transformation of Malaysia, particularly economic transformation, which has enhanced the nation’s peace and prosperity.

WCEF advisor and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek presented the award to Najib, in the presence of WCEF patron Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew and WCEF chairman and Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (Asli) chief executive officer Datuk Michael Yeoh.

Yeoh said the Chinese community has benefited tremendously from the fair and just leadership of Najib.

“The 1Malaysia philosophy, the increased financial allocation for Chinese schools and the granting of tax exemption to churches and temples have shown his commitment to fairness and justice.

“We recognise your immense contributions to the Malaysian Chinese community and we are honoured to present you with this award,” he said at the special conferment ceremony and opening of the WCEF Global Business Council.

In accepting the award, Najib said it is a truly great honour.

“It means so much to be recognised for my contribution to the Chinese community whom I have always held in the very highest regard not only for your business and entrepreneurial acumen, but also for your commitment to education, to charitable causes and, of course, to community work.

“Without your contributions, Malaysia wouldn’t be where it is today. So, I would like to thank WCEF and Asli,” he said.

Najib also cited a Chinese proverb, saying “if you want one year of prosperity, grow grain. If you want 10 years of prosperity, grow trees. And, if you want a hundred years of prosperity, grow people”.

“Only if we build on the strengths and talents of all our people here at home will we be able to make the most of everything Malaysia has to offer on the international stage, both now and in the future,” he said.
